[ARCHIVED] Loan Program Available to Qualifiying Low-Income Homeowners

The City of Burlington was recently awarded $37,500 in funding by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) under the 2013 Urgent Repair Program. This program provides funds to assist low and very low-income households with special needs in addressing housing conditions which pose imminent threats to life or safety. The program also provides funding for accessibility modification and other repairs necessary to prevent displacement of low and very low-income homeowners with special needs.

The Community Development Division of the City’s Planning Department will administer the program. Of the program, Community Development Administrator Shawna Tillery says, “The City is very excited to partner with the NCHFA to offer an urgent repair program for our citizens.” Tillery adds that “this is the first time the City has offered this type of program and we are looking forward to helping residents who might otherwise not be able to continue to live in their current situation.”

To be eligible, homeowners must meet the specific requirements. Homeowners must reside within the City of Burlington and both own and occupy the home in need of repair. Total household income must not exceed 50% of the County median income for the household size. The homeowner must have a special need, and must have urgent repair needs, which cannot be met through other state or federally-funded housing assistance programs.
