GOV. EASLEY ANNOUNCES $7 MILLION EXPANSION BY KAYSER-ROTH IN ALAMANCE COUNTY
One North Carolina Fund Grant Helps Textile Company add 180 Jobs

Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley announced today that Kayser-Roth Corp., a manufacturer of socks and other apparel, will invest $7 million to expand its operations in Alamance County, creating 180 new jobs during the next three years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

“Despite flawed federal trade policy, Kayser Roth is a textile company that is succeeding and expanding in our state,” said Easley. “Their growth is testament to the commitment we continue to make to provide the skilled workforce, low tax burden and business-friendly climate that allow companies to prosper in North Carolina.”

Kayser-Roth, an affiliate of Italian textile company Golden Lady, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of branded, licensed and private-label leg wear and apparel in the United States. Headquartered in Greensboro, Kayser-Roth owns well-known brand names No Nonsense and Hue and also makes products for other popular brands including Timberland, Calvin Klein, Burlington, Interwoven and Prima Sport.

Kayser-Roth employs 1,160 people at four facilities in North Carolina. The 180 new positions will include manufacturing jobs, some of which will be located in a new 100,000 square foot plant adjacent to the company’s knitting and finishing facility in Burlington. The new jobs will pay, on average, approximately $710 a week, including benefits.

“Our facilities in North Carolina and Tennessee are the finest leg wear manufacturing facilities in the world and produce the highest quality products and services available anywhere,” said Kevin Toomey, Kayser-Roth president and CEO. “We are proud of our ‘Made in America’ focus and we will increase our investment and add jobs to support that vision here at our Burlington facility.”

The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in recruiting and expanding quality jobs by providing financial assistance to businesses or industries deemed by the governor to be vital to a healthy and growing state economy. Since 2001, this Fund has helped create more than 17,000 jobs and bring $2 billion in investment to the state.
