Burlington, NC (March 14, 2005) – The votes are in! The Dentzel Carousel Festival has been recognized as one of the top ten local favorites for North Carolina in Travelocity’s 2005 “Local Secrets, Big Finds” poll. More then 30,000 nominations poured in from Travelocity members around North America, challenging Travelocity’s editorial team to search for the best of the best local finds in each state.
A comprehensive list of unique places worth seeking out, Local Secrets, Big Finds is packed with treasures that no other guidebook boasts. This online collection will send you straight to the heart of your destination, revealing those hidden gems across the country that are often overlooked by tourists but are the very places where the locals often go.
Ranging from ostrich racing to alligator eating, a raptor rehab to a disappearing lake, these places celebrate North America in its rugged beauty and its quiet sunsets, in fabulous food and fun festivals. Some can be found in your very own backyard.

After querying millions of Travelocity members to find out about the favorite quintessential finds in their area, Travelocity’s editorial team culled down more then 30,000 customer responses to unearth the best local spots in each state and is now sharing the list of Local Secrets, Big Finds with vacationers across the country. A total of 510 spots, that is 10 picks for every state, plus Washington, D.C., were compiled from around the United States. An additional 68 hot spots were chosen from Canada.
