Public Notification
The City of Burlington will soon conduct controlled flushing of the water distribution system. The purpose of this program is to prepare the distribution system for the transition to chloramines on July 25, 2011. The City will flush small sections of the system at a time in an effort to minimize impacts to customers. Flushing the lines may result in localized cloudiness and discoloration of the water. This condition is temporary and is the result of the scouring action on the water lines. You can quickly clear up the discolored water in your home or business by flushing water through your plumbing. Recommended locations for flushing your plumbing are outside spigots and bathtubs. Residents should not wash clothes in water that is discolored as this could result in stains.
Questions concerning the transition to chloramines should be directed to the City of Burlington Water Resources Department at 336-222-5133.
