The Burlington City Council held it's May Work Session on May 2nd. The primary topic of discussion was the proposed FY 2011-2012 Budget.
The meeting was recorded and is available for view on City website (www.burlingtonNC.gov/media).
The highlight of this proposed $47,694,831 budget is a 1 cent tax decrease. The proposed property tax rate would be $0.58 per $100 valuation.
Tax rates have not decreased (except for in circumstances of property re-evaluations) since 1979.
The proposed budget will also provide for equipping 6 grant-funded police officers, fire breathing apparatus, dump truck, garbage truck, 9 fleet replacements, and $500,000 set aside for expansion of fire services.
A public hearing on the budget will be held on June 7th at 7:00PM in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building (425 S. Lexington Ave.). The proposed budget Ordinance can be viewed by clicking the link below.
