[ARCHIVED] Spay & Neuter Clinic Celebrates One Year

March 30, 2011 marked the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Spay and Neuter Clinic of Alamance County. The clinic was opened last year with the aim of addressing the increasing unwanted pet population in Alamance County.

To date, 1,378 animals have been spayed or neutered, and will, therefore, not contribute to the increasing number of unwanted puppies and kittens in Alamance County.
Every animal adopted from the Pet Adoption Center is also spayed or neutered before it is adopted.

The Spay and Neuter clinic evolved after the Pet Adoption Center opened in 2004. Even though there was a facility dedicated to adopting animals, it became clear that it could not keep up with the number of animals that were reproducing every year. Preventing animals from reproducing is the most effective method of decreasing the pet population. Decreasing the pet population reduces the numbers of animals that have to be euthanized, and increases the number of adoptions.

The Spay and Neuter Clinic of Alamance County is one of several options to those that wish to help control the pet overpopulation problem by spaying or neutering their pet. Other options are available through the Humane Society of Alamance County and local veterinarians in private practice.

The Spay and Neuter Clinic operates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and is located at 1919 South Church Street. Citizens can make appointments anytime during the week. Anyone interested in making an appointment can do so by calling 570-6767. More information about Burlington Animal Services can be obtained by calling 578-0343.
