The City of Burlington has been working with APAC-Thompson Arthur Paving Company for resurfacing streets in the Central Business District. At this point, the majority of the items associated with this work have been completed. All streets in the downtown area have been resurfaced and temporary pavement markings have been installed. The contractor will now begin installing the decorative stamped crosswalks.
The work will affect 14 intersections in the downtown area. These intersections will be affected in different ways with some being closed in all four directions during normal business hours, some being closed in all four directions during the weekend only, and the remainder being worked on during the week while maintaining traffic flow in each direction. When completed, the crosswalks will duplicate the same faux-brick pattern currently in place at the Spring Street/Maple Avenue intersection.
Listed below are the intersections and how their closings will be carried out:
These intersections will be closed for two business days in all four directions:
1. Morehead Street at Worth Street
2. Morehead Street at Lexington Avenue
3. Davis Street at Lexington Avenue
4. Front Street at Lexington Avenue
These intersections will be closed during the weekend in all four directions:
1. Maple Avenue at Worth Street
2. Maple Avenue at Main Street
3. Morehead Street at Main Street
4. Maple Avenue at Lexington Avenue
These intersections will be closed in sections while allowing two-way traffic in each direction:
1. Worth Street at Davis Street
2. Worth Street at Front Street
3. Main Street at Davis Street
4. Main Street at Front Street
5. Spring Street at Davis Street
6. Spring Street at Front Street
The work is expected to take a minimum of 4 weeks to complete. Access to businesses will be maintained with some periods of limited access. Due to the nature of the work, some delays can be expected and possible intermittent closures to through traffic.
The project should not affect pedestrians utilizing adjacent sidewalks.
