[ARCHIVED] Update on Downtown Resurfacing (June 7, 2010)

Construction Worker

The City of Burlington has been working with APAC-Thompson Arthur Paving Company for resurfacing streets in the Central Business District. At this point, the majority of the items associated with this work have been completed. All streets in the downtown area have been milled and resurfaced. Temporary pavement markings have been added as well. These markings are lighter and appear faded compared to the permanent markings that will be installed at a later date.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be working on resurfacing Webb Avenue and Church Street in the proximity of the downtown area over the next several weeks. Once these resurfacing operations are complete, the remaining work in the downtown Burlington area will take place. These remaining items are the installation of the permanent lane markings and the installation of decorative stamped asphalt at the crosswalks. These final items are being postponed until after the NCDOT work is complete to prevent the fresh paint of the lane marking and the crosswalks from being damaged by the truck and construction traffic from these other projects.

Every effort will be made to maintain traffic and access to all business; however, due to the nature of the work there will be delays and possible intermittent closures to through traffic.

The project should not affect pedestrians utilizing adjacent sidewalks.

The City thanks citizens for their patience and assistance with this project.
