[ARCHIVED] Update on Downtown Resurfacing

Construction Worker

The City of Burlington has entered into a contract with APAC-Thompson Arthur Paving Company for resurfacing streets in the Central Business District. Items associated with this work will include:
• Milling of the cracked existing pavement 1.5 inches below existing surface
• Adjustment of manhole and valve covers
• Patching weak areas of pavement
• Resurface streets to match current grades
• Temporary pavement markings
• Decorative stamped asphalt at the crosswalks
• Permanent pavement markings

The work began on Friday, April 30, and should be completed in about 45 days. The majority of the heaviest work (milling/resurfacing) will be performed in the night-time or weekend hours. Other work may be scheduled to be completed during normal working hours.

After paving is complete, the contractor will be installing stamped asphalt decorative crosswalks at all downtown intersections. As this is completed, the contractor will then place permanent pavement markings throughout downtown.

Every effort will be made to maintain traffic and access to all business; however, due to the nature of the work there will be delays and possible intermittent closures to through traffic.

Additionally, on-street parking will not be allowed during the milling, paving and striping operations. The contractor is required to post “no parking” signs a minimum of 24-hours prior to work commencing.

The project should not affect pedestrians utilizing adjacent sidewalks.

The City thanks citizens for their patience and assistance with this project.
