[ARCHIVED] Child Passenger Safety Law Changes

CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY LAW CHANGES

Senate Bill 1218, which implements enhancements to the NC CPS Law, was signed into law by Governor Easley on August 17.

The changes went into effect January 1, 2005.

The main change in this "Booster Seat Law" is that it will require most children less than age eight and 80 pounds to be restrained in a weight-appropriate child restraint. For the most part, this means belt-positioning booster seats for children over 40 pounds.

This bill was one of the main legislative initiatives of the North Carolina Child Fatality Task Force and the NC CPS Community owes the Task Force a big thank you for the work that went into this effort. For more information on the Task Force, contact Tom Vitaglione,
Co-chair of the Child Fatality Task Force via email at tom@ncchild.org or by phone at 919-834-6623 ext. 235.
