[ARCHIVED] City Reports Sewer Overflow

As required by the Clean Water Act of 1999 (House Bill 1160), the City of Burlington provides the following notice:

The City of Burlington had an overflow of approximately 400,000 - 500,000 gallons of untreated wastewater from its sanitary sewer collection system reach surface waters beginning at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the South Burlington Wastewater Treatment Plant on 2471 Boywood Road in Graham, NC. The overflow, caused by excessive flow due to the remnants of Hurricane Ida, discharged into the Haw River. Additional pumps were placed into operation and flooding ceased by 6:15 PM.

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality was notified of this overflow. This information is being published as required by North Carolina General Statutes, Article 21 Chapter 143.215.C.
