Retirements create an opportunity for police department to undergo reorganization. Police staff evaluated the effectiveness of executive level staffing and identified two positions that would enhance operations more efficiently if reassigned. The two positions are the Animal Services Lieutenant and the Traffic Lieutenant. The reassignment of both lieutenant positions to the Operations Bureau to work closely with 8 community policing teams will allow the department to be more effective in addressing neighborhood concerns and problems. Other organizational changes mean more officers on the street increasing staff by approximately 21 percent during peak hours.
