[ARCHIVED] Oct. 17 Sanitary Sewer Overflow

As required by the Clean Water Act of 1999 (House Bill 1160), the City of Burlington provides the following notice:

The City of Burlington had an overflow of approximately 4,500 gallons of untreated wastewater from its sanitary sewer collection system reach surface waters on Saturday, October 17, 2009 behind 1521 Apple Street Extension adjacent to Servis Creek. The overflow was caused by tree root blockage. Flow was corrected within two hours of notification. City Staff continues to remove roots to achieve optimal flow levels and will look into long-term repair options later this week.

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality was notified of this overflow. This information is being published as required by North Carolina General Statutes, Article 21 Chapter 143.215.C.
