[ARCHIVED] City Accepting Applications for Boards and Commissions

The Burlington City Council invites you to take a more active role in municipal affairs by applying for appointment to one of the City’s advisory boards or commissions.
The City Council will appoint qualified City residents to these boards and commissions during the month of July. Applicants are encouraged to attend a meeting of the board or commission in which they are interested to gain a greater awareness of its duties and responsibilities.
Burlington residents interested in applying for appointment should contact the Public Information Department, Room 201, Municipal Building, 425 S. Lexington Avenue, 222-5076, to obtain an application. Deadline for receipt of applications is Monday, April 1, 2005.


Board of Adjustment - Considers appeals concerning zoning variations. Meets 2nd Tuesday, 8:30 a.m., Room 202, Municipal Building.
Burlington-Alamance Airport Authority - Addresses matters concerning the operation of the local airport. Meets 4th Wednesday, 12:30 p.m., Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport.
Burlington-Graham Board of Alcoholic Beverage Control - Oversees the operation of ABC stores and disburses profits from the sale of alcoholic beverages. Meets last Thursday in months of January, April, June, July, and October, 4:30 p.m., General Office, 603 W. Harden St., Graham.
Burlington Housing Commission - Evaluates housing condemnation requests, and other housing concerns within the City. Meets 4th Tuesday. 10:00 a.m., Inspections Classroom.
Community Appearance Commission - Makes recommendations to City Council regarding community appearance, plans for the preservation, planting and removal of trees on City property. Meets 3rd Wednesday, 4:00p.m., Street Department, 234 E. Summit Ave.
Housing Authority - Directs all federal housing projects within the City. Meets 1st Thursday, noon, Housing Authority Office, 133 N. Ireland St.
Historic Preservation Commission - Advises City Council regarding historic sites and preservation. Meets 2nd Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Room 101, Municipal Bldg.
Planning and Zoning Commission - Advises City Council on planning, zoning, and subdivision matters. Meets 4th Monday, 7:00 p.m., Room 202, Municipal Bldg.
Recreation and Parks Commission - Advises City Council on matters involving recreational facilities operated by the City. Meets 2nd Thursday, 5:30 p.m., Kernodle Senior Center, 1535 S. Mebane Street.
Telecommunications Advisory Commission - Advises City Council on cable repair service matters and regulates basic tier cable rates. Called meetings.
Traffic Commission - Considers matters relative to the safe and efficient flow of traffic in the City. Meets 1st Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., Room 202, Municipal Bldg.
