Effective October 1, 2009, Peggy Reece will begin her transition to the role of Finance Director for the City of Burlington, North Carolina. “I am honored that I have been chosen to fill this position… my door will always be open,” said Reece. “This is a position that requires trustworthiness and I’m honored that the City has put their faith in my abilities.”
Reece’s financial career began over twenty-five years ago progressing through several different companies and ranging in roles from Controller to Chief Financial Officer. Since 2002, Reece has served as the City’s Accounting/Treasury Manager. In this role she has mirrored several of the duties she will perform as Finance Director.
At the end of March 2010, the City’s current Finance Director, Linda “Holli” Hollifield will retire. The interim period of October through March allows Reece to work side-by-side with Hollifield to ensure a smooth transition of duties. This coincides with one of Reece’s top priorities, providing a smooth and seamless transition between the two finance professionals.
Other priorities for Reece include assisting the City Manager by providing financial information in a timely manner, ensuring the City’s strict compliance with all financial statutes (federal, state, & local), and providing key financial information to departments in a timely manner.
Reece is fully aware of the challenges the current economy presents. “I will work hard to determine how to do more with less… especially with the uncertainty of future revenues. The City must stay on top of constantly changing regulations to help ensure financial stability for the City and ultimately our citizens.”
