[ARCHIVED] City of Burlington Receives Excellence in Communications Award

NC3C Award

HICKORY, NC – John Robert Nixon, Public Information Officer for the City of Burlington was among 16 North Carolina government communications professionals to earn recognition in the first North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) Excellence in Communications Awards presented Thursday, April 2 during a banquet at the Hickory Museum of Art as part NC3C’s second annual Spring Conference.

A total of 32 awards were presented in 10 categories. Categories included TV & Videos, Communication Technology, Special Events, Printed Publications, Most Creative Activity with the Least Dollars of Spent, Service Delivery, Marketing Tools, and Communications Plans.

Nixon received a second place award in the category of Most Creative Activity with the Least Dollars Spent for “Burlington 2.0”, a Web 2.0 project from the Office of Public Information. “Burlington 2.0” encompassed a wide variety of electronic communication tools Burlington recently implemented. These communication tools include: Facebook, Twitter, RSS Feeds, Google Videos, and other forms of streaming media.

Judges for the NC3C Excellence in Communications Awards were government communication professionals from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Texas and Virginia. Each judge had previously won first or second-place in the national Savvy Awards, presented annually by the national City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA).

The purpose of North Carolina City & County Communicators is to encourage professional development and networking among local governmental communications professionals. The organization was formed in March, 2007 by 27 professional communicators from around the state. Since then, the organization has grown to more than 70 members.
