[ARCHIVED] High Pressure Water Zone

Thursday, December 16, 2004, has been established as the date for the creation of the new high water pressure zone in west and northwest Burlington. Customers who will be realizing approximately 27 pounds per square inch (psi) of additional water pressure are located within “Area A” as shown on the accompanying map. A detailed list of street addresses affected by the water pressure are listed on page 2 of City Works. These customers have previously been notified of this proposed change.

It is very likely that the separation of the water distribution system into two pressure zones will result in discolored water both in the new higher pressure zone as well as in the neighborhoods adjacent to “Area A”. If customers experience discolored water, several faucets should be opened and water should be allowed to run until clear water returns. Also, it may be necessary to check plumbing fixtures and appurtenances for any sediment that may be trapped in screens or strainers.

Industrial and commercial customers that use water in their processes, especially textile dyeing, should make every effort to mitigate the impact of discolored water on their operations.

Questions should be directed to the City of Burlington’s Customer Services Department at (336) 222-5100 or the Engineering Department at (336) 222-5050.
