Detective Of The Year 2004
Cpl. A. B. Irby is the recipient of the 2004 Steve Lynch Award. Cpl. Irby was selected from the Criminal Investigations Division, which consists of Detectives that handle both adult and juvenile cases. This is the fourth year the award has been given. Past recipients are, J. A. Saunders, R. P. Ingram and B. L. Currie. Steve Lynch retired from the Burlington Police Department at the rank of Captain after a long and successful career.
Funding for the Steve Lynch Award has been provided by Jolette Harviel, her husband and daughters to honor the memory of their mother, Margaret G. Fuquay and in grateful appreciation of the excellence demonstrated by Steve Lynch and the detective force of the Burlington Police Department. “This formal recognition of our police investigators is something that should be done. I am just happy to be able to support it.” said Jolette Harviel. Additional funding has been provided by the law firm of Wishart, Norris, Henninger & Pittman, P.A. through the auspices of the Wishart, Norris Henninger & Pittman Charitable Foundation. This charitable foundation was established by the law firm in 2001 to endow continued financial support for charitable and public service endeavors. “Members of our firm have worked with Steve Lynch and other members of the Burlington Police Department over the years on a professional level, in the United Way and other charitable work. We respect the work of the Department and are happy our Foundation can participate in this award.” Commented Derek Steed, President of the Foundation.
