At the July 15, Burlington City Council meeting Vicky Hunt, Chairman of the Pet Adoption and Welfare Society (PAWS), reimbursed the city over $32,000 on a PAWS commitment to support a more humane form of euthanasia for Burlington Animal Services and the Pet Adoption Center.
Emphasizing that this is not the overall solution, Ms. Hunt recognized that additional efforts in the form of increasing spay/neuter options would be necessary to decrease intake numbers at the shelter. In response to recommendations from a city initiated task force, PAWS has committed and additional $100,000 towards spay/neuter efforts.
