[ARCHIVED] VITA Assistance Continues for Elderly, Disabled, and Retired Residents

The Weed and Seed Program of the Burlington Police Department has successfully completed another year of its Volunteer Income Tax Preparation Program (VITA). This was a joint effort to prepare taxes free of charge for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents. BFP W&S were one of two sites in NC chosen to participate in this joint Department of Justice and Internal Revenue Service Initiative.

However, the City will continue to operate beyond April 15, 2008 for those elderly, disabled and retired residents who qualify to receive the “Stimulus Payment.” As part of this effort, we will be assisting residents of Springview Assisted Living to file their 1040As on April 24, 2008. This outreach activity will occur from 10am to 4pm at 1032 N Mebane St. and 611 & 613 Whitsett St, Burlington, NC.

Local partners in this effort include Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church, Freedom Fellowship Church and Centro La Comunidad.
