[ARCHIVED] Fire Hydrant Recall Advisory

Hydrants

The City of Burlington was recently informed by American Flow Control, as well as, Clow Valve Company that certain models of their fire hydrants have parts under recall.

Burlington officials have identified City hydrants that are part of this recall and are servicing them accordingly; however, some communities and businesses have purchased their own hydrants which are privately maintained. The City encourages these parties to check their hydrants to see if they affected by this recall.

The companies have issued the following statements:

Clow Valve Company:
• “Clow Valve Company is informing all clients that Medallion and F2500 fire hydrants with cast years of 2002, 2003, and 2004 may require replacement of the upper stem. To facilitate the repairs, Clow Valve Company will provide a replacement kit free of charge and a labor allowance for each upper stem returned.” (http://www.clowvalve.com/stem_replacement/safetynotice.php)

American Flow:
“Hydrants operating rod and grease in each model B-84-B, B-62-B, B-50-B, and MK-73 hydrant bearing cast dates from 1999 through 2003 must be replaced. AFC will provide at no charge to you a complete operating rod and grease replacement kit.” (http://www.acipco.com/afc/productalert/)
