[ARCHIVED] City Tries to Reduce Excessive Number of False Alarms

Effective July 1, 2004, an ordinance was adopted by the Burlington City Council requiring all new and existing burglar and fire alarm systems to be permitted by the Police or Fire Departments. The purpose of the ordinance is to reduce the excessive number of false alarms that are responded to by Police and Fire units. Along with permitting requirements, fines were established for excessive false alarms.

Section 3.17 (e) of the “Alarm Control” ordinance states that “any person or firm who fails to register their alarm system with the City of Burlington alarm systems coordinator shall be subject to a civil penalty in the nature of a debt in the amount of one hundred dollars (100.00).”

Many burglar and fire alarm systems throughout Burlington are in violation of this ordinance and need to be registered with either the Police or Fire Departments.

If you own or operate a residence or business equipped with a burglar or fire alarm system that has not been registered, please contact the alarm systems coordinators at the numbers listed below.
