The United States Tennis Association Southern Section has awarded the Burlington Recreation & Parks Department's Tennis Center the "Tournament Of The Year" award for the Burlington Junior Novice Tennis Tournament. This tournament played host to over 100 junior tennis players ages 8-18 and is a USTA Sanctioned Event. The Burlington Tournament, under the direction of Tennis Director John Walton was chosen from a list of over 150 tournaments held in the Southeast. The award was presented to Walton at the January meeting of the North Carolina Tennis Association in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
