DSC_0011

The Burlington Police Department is happy to welcome a new member to our team. We have adopted a new dog, Shadow, for our K-9 unit. He and his trainer, Officer Walker will begin work as a drug detection team soon.

The Burlington Police Department is happy to announce the addition of a new police dog added to the canine unit. The new dog, Shadow, will be handled by Officer Wesley Walker who is assigned to the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Team (ANET). Shadow is a single purpose canine and is trained to detect illegal narcotics. The police department worked with Burlington Animal Services Pet Adoption Center and adopted Shadow from the shelter during the end of 2017. He has been in training since December and was recently certified in drug detection by International Police Work Dog Association.(IPWDA) The police department would also like to thank all of the fifth grade DARE students in the City of Burlington that helped name Shadow during his adoption and training process. The students were provided with a list of names to choose from and overwhelmingly voted for the name of "Shadow." As a reminder, many wonderful animals need to be adopted at your local animal shelter. The Burlington Animal Shelter is located at 221 Stone Quarry Road, Burlington NC. The phone number is 336-578-0343. www.ci.burlington.nc.us/1861/Adopting-a-Pet
