Each year the department presents an award for the Detective of the Year. This year four detectives were nominated.
Congratulations to Detective Alex Shockley on being named the 2017 Detective of the Year! The award was presented this past Tuesday, the 20th, at a special lunch for the ceremony. Each nominee must meet certain criteria to be considered. They must have been in the division for the entire 2017 year, no disciplinary action, and they are nominated by their peers. The detectives coworkers send in nomination letters which should demonstrate the nominees' skills as an investigator, their teamwork abilities, the quality of their work, and more. Shockley was nominated because of his willingness to out in extra hours whenever necessary, his great attitude, and his exceptional ability to work within his team. One of his nominations stated, "Despite...long hours, stressful cases, and a daunting case load, Detective Shockley comes to work with a hard-working attitude and a smile on his face. In my humble opinion, [he] is the epitome of a consummate professional. He's hard-working and compassionate and I am fortunate to call him my peer and my friend." "I have witnessed him treat each person that he has come across with the same dignity and respect that he has shown to his co-workers and peers." "[He] has proven time and again that he is capable of investigating any type of crime that crosses his path." Congratulations, Detective!
