[ARCHIVED] Sunday Alcohol Sales Permitted at 10am

WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly has recently authorized expanded

Sunday sale times for certain alcoholic beverages and the law has become effective upon the

Governor's signature on June 30, 2017; and


WHEREAS, the hospitality industry is a very important part of the overall retail business

community in Burlington and allowing alcohol service before noon on Sunday will benefit our

small business community, bring people into business districts earlier in the day and generate

increased tax revenues;


BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGTON that

a new section shall be added to Chapter 15 (Intoxicating Liquors) as follows:

Section 1. A new Section 15-2 ofthe Burlington Code of Ordinances is hereby enacted to read

as follows:


"Sunday Sales.


Pursuant to authority granted under N.C.G.S. 160A-205.3 (Session Law 2017-87), the sale of

malt beverages, unfortified wine, fortified wine and mixed beverages shall be allowed within

Burlington's corporate limits at any premises licensed pursuant to N.C.G.S. 18B-1001 on

Sundays beginning at 10:00 a.m.


Section 2: That all ordinance or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are repealed.


Section 3: That this ordinance shall be effective upon adoption.
