[ARCHIVED] New City Slogan

The City Council, on Tuesday night November 2, 2004, decided on a new City slogan:

"Connecting the Triad & Triangle"

The Council recognizes truth in the old adage: "location, location, location" and the fact that one of Burlington's greatest assets is its strategic position between Research Triangle Park (RTP), which has become the "silicone valley of the east coast", and the Triad area of Greensboro, Winston Salem, and High Point.

Burlington is well situated in the heart of internationally acclaimed universities, all within an hour's drive: Duke, Wake Forest, Chapel Hill, NC State, UNCG, A&T, High Point, and Elon in it's back yard.

It is apparent from the recent growth Burlington is experiencing, that outside investors have already recognized the City's prime location along two major interstates (85 and 40). Burlington is home to the headquarters of the largest biomedical-testing laboratory in North America, LabCorp. It has a newly improved airport which can land a 737, and with it's lakes, golf courses, and natural beauty it is fast becoming one of the hottest real estate areas in North Carolina. It is no surprise, therefore, that the City Council chose to focus on the location asset of Burlington.

Many slogans have been suggested to replace "Bigger Better Burlington" which was used for several decades. Some of those considered by the Council were: " Burlington, the City of Recreation", "A City of Progress in Motion", and "Burlington, the heart of North Carolina".

One thing is sure, the City can no longer be known as "The City Without a Slogan".
