The City of Burlington’s Tree and Appearance Commission will celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at City Park. A display table will be set up at the Burlington Carousel Festival on Saturday and Sunday. During the Carousel Festival, the Commission will give away Crape Myrtle Trees donated by the New Leaf Society. Drawings will be held each hour and trees will be given away to lucky winners. Tree & Appearance Commission members will be on hand all weekend to distribute literature that will help anyone interested in trees learn more about them.
Arbor Day presents an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of trees and to beautify the City through tree planting. For 22 years, Burlington has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Questions may be directed to the City’s Cemetery and Grounds Division Superintendent, Jeff Parsons, at 222-5077. Information about the Tree City USA Program can be found at www.arborday.org/ and information about the New Leaf Society is available at www.newleafsociety.org.
