[ARCHIVED] Home Loans Available to Qualified Special Needs/ Low Income Households

The City of Burlington was recently awarded $75,000 in grant funding by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) under the 2015 Urgent Repair Program. The program provides funds to assist special needs households with low and very-low income in addressing housing conditions which pose imminent threats to life or safety. The program also provides funding for accessibility modification and other repairs necessary to prevent displacement of low and very-low income homeowners with special needs.

The Community Development Division of the City’s Planning Department will administer the program. Of the program, Community Development Administrator Shawna Tillery says, “The City is very excited about our continued partnership with the NCHFA” Tillery adds that “this is our third, and largest, allocation from the NCHFA and we are thrilled to be able to offer this housing assistance program to the citizens of Alamance County who might otherwise not be able to continue to live in their current situation.”

To be eligible, homeowners must meet the specific requirements. Homeowners must reside within Alamance County and both own and occupy the home in need of repair. Total household income must not exceed 50% of the County median income for the household size. The homeowner must have a special need, and must have urgent repair needs, which cannot be met through other state or federally-funded housing assistance programs.

Applications will be accepted beginning July 15, 2015. Homeowners who wish to apply for assistance must do so by September 19, 2015. Homeowners may apply by contacting Community Development Technician, Staci Harris, at 336-222-5093 or stharris@ci.burlington.nc.us.

Any questions regarding the program can be directed to Community Development Administrator, Shawna Tillery, at 336-222-5094 or stillery@ci.burlington.nc.us.
