RE: Nomination of Dr. David L.
Maynard, Sr.
Duke Power Citizenship and
Service Award
Dear Selection Committee:
It gives me great pleasure to submit Dr. David L. Maynard, Sr. for your consideration for the Duke Power Citizenship and Service Award. Dr. Maynard has a long and distinguished record of service and leadership in our community and holds membership in many organizations that serve residents of all ages.
Dr. Maynard is a native of Burlington and, with exception of attending college, military service, and a short teaching assignment in Blackstone, Virginia, has spent most of his years in Alamance County. While he is widely recognized as a long-time member of the Burlington City Council (he will conclude 28 consecutive years of service to the City December 6 of this year), his civic and church work is most notable. His current civic service includes:
Member Board of Directors D.A.R.E. of Burlington, Inc.
Member Board of Directors Alamance Eldercare
Member Board of Directors Sword of Peace
Member Red Cross Advisory Board
Member Alamance County Human Relations Council
Member Volunteers for People Advisory Board
Member Jack O’Kelly Sertoma Club
Co-Founder and Member Alamance County Sertoma Club
Member Alamance County Correctional Advisory Board
Member Men’s Garden Club of Burlington
In addition to his civic involvement, Dr. Maynard is very active in his church. He attends First Baptist Church Apple Street in Burlington where he serves on the Board of Trustees, teacher of the Eureka Adult Sunday School Class, and as a youth advisor. Dr. Maynard is also a member of St. Augustus Masonic Lodge No. 642, and Omega Phi Psi Fraternity.
As evident through his service on the Burlington City Council, his civic involvement, and his work in his church, it is readily apparent Dr. Maynard has committed his life to serving others. He is a man who sincerely believes charity begins at home, and he has generously given of his time, energy, wisdom, and resources to make Alamance County a better place for everyone. Dr. Maynard is a true and committed servant of the people, and I respectfully submit his name for consideration of this award.
Sincerely,
Harold T. Owen
