Proclaiming October 2005
Fire Prevention Month
in the City of Burlington
WHEREAS, the City of Burlington is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our city; and
WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally as Fire Prevention Month with special emphasis placed on fire safety efforts; and
WHEREAS, a key component of the mission of the Burlington Fire Department is fire and injury prevention; and
WHEREAS, using proper care with candles will have a positive effect on the home fire problem; and
WHEREAS, each candle fire that is prevented in Burlington is an opportunity to prevent painful injury and costly property damage; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 Fire Prevention Month theme, "Use Candles with Care: When You Go Out, Blow Out!" effectively serves to remind us all of the simple actions we can take to stay safer from fire during Fire Prevention Month and year-round.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stephen M. Ross, Mayor of the City of Burlington, do hereby proclaim October 2005 as Fire Prevention Month.
