[ARCHIVED] Arbor Day Celebration at City Park- 9/20

The Burlington Tree and Appearance Commission will celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday September 20, 2014 at City Park. A display table will be set up at the Burlington Carousel Festival. The Commission will give away Yoshino Cherry Trees donated by the New Leaf Society during the day on Saturday. Drawings will be held each hour and three trees will be given away to three lucky individuals. A tree will be planted in honor of Arbor Day at 2:30 P.M. and proper planting techniques will be demonstrated. Members will be on hand to give out literature that will help anyone interested in trees learn more about them.

Arbor Day presents an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of trees and to beautify the City through tree planting. For 21 years, Burlington has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Questions may be directed to the City’s Cemetery and Grounds Division Superintendent, Jeff Parsons, at 222-5077. Information about the Tree City USA Program can be found at www.arborday.org/ and information about the New Leaf Society is available at www.newleafsociety.org.
