Fire Prevention

Fire Prevention Division

The Fire Prevention Division serves the citizens of our community by regularly inspecting commercial and public buildings for fire hazards. The inspectors check for such things as the presence of fire extinguishers, accessible exits, and proper storage of combustible materials. Preventing fires before they start is the most cost-efficient form of fire protection.

The Fire Prevention Division also educates the public about fire safety. Throughout the year fire safety educators visit the schools in the Burlington city limits and educate children about the dangers of fire and how to prevent fires. Fire safety literature is distributed to the children and they are encouraged to discuss the materials with their parents.

Please review the pages on the sidebar for Fire Prevention related activities.

New Residents
The Burlington Fire Department would like to extend a welcome to residents of recently annexed areas as well as residents moving into the area.  Please feel free to find a contact on our contact page if you have any questions.  Details about the fire alarm policy including the application for required registration are available on this website.  Additionally, newly annexed residents need to remember to contact the company responsible for monitoring their fire alarm system.  Kathryn Crawford can provide the new number to give to the monitoring company so a fire alarm is properly routed to our communications center.
