We are currently assisting visitors by appointment to see adoptable pets. You can view all of the pets in our program both at the shelter and in foster care at the "Pets at Animal Services" tab on the menu bar.  Use the appointment scheduler in this window to make an appointment to visit and adopt a pet!

STEP 1: View available pets at https://www.burlingtonnc.gov/1540/Pets-Currently-a... so you know which pets you will want to visit with. Please make note of their names and/or animal identification numbers if possible.

STEP 2: Schedule only one 30 minute appointment slot per visit. You may visit with up to 3 pets per visit.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • We are unable to accommodate walkthroughs of our facility. Your pet visitation will be conducted in one of our new private pet visitation rooms, or outdoors in our play yards (dogs only), weather permitting.
  • Pets are adopted on a first come-first served basis and may be adopted very quickly. Be sure to check the listing of pets at the link above before your appointment for the current status of the pets you are interested in. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of pets sometimes change if an adoption falls through or an "unavailable" pet becomes available for adoption. The website is automatically updated every hour and displays all pets in our program.
  • If you know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet and do not need to schedule a visit, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov.
  • Some pets are located at the Animal Services Pet Adoption & Resource Center and some are located off site in private foster homes. Visitation and adoption of pets in the foster program must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. You can email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit with, or adoption of a pet in foster care.
  • Visitors to the Animal Services Center must wear a face mask at all times while inside the facility.

Thank you for your interest in giving a BAS pet a home!
