Term Limits Policy
On May 4, 1999, the Burlington City Council adopted a policy setting term limits for members of the City's advisory boards and commissions. According to this new policy, new board members are eligible to serve up to three consecutive three-year terms (a total of nine years). The City Council reserves the right to extend appointments beyond this limit by one year on a year-by-year basis.
All current board members are also eligible to serve up to three additional consecutive terms, effective when their current term expires.
The Burlington-Alamance Airport Authority and the Burlington-Graham Board of Alcoholic Control, both of which were created by the State of North Carolina, are exempt from this new term limits policy.
