Location: Maynard Aquatic Center (Saturday Parent/Child classes held at North Park Pool)
Makeup Dates for Weather-related Closures:
MW classes: Friday of each week of class.
Sat classes: Saturday following last week of class.
The session is considered complete after 4 lessons if no make-up days remain. Only classes cancelled by BRP are eligible for refund or make-up.

Class Level Descriptions and Prerequisite Skills
PARENT & CHILD
Children are familiarized with the water and taught swim readiness skills. Parents learn techniques to help orient and keep their child safe in and around water.
Prerequisites: At least 1, but no more than 2, adults to enter the water and participate with the child in the class.
PRESCHOOL 1: BEGINNER
Children are introduced to the water and start developing positive attitudes and safe practices in and around it.
Prerequisites: None
PRESCHOOL 2: ADVANCED BEGINNER
Children build on and improve skills learned in Preschool 1.
Prerequisites: Ability to enter pool independently, travel 5 yds, submerge to mouth and blow bubbles, and safely exit. Glide 2 body lengths, roll to back, float 3 seconds, then recover to vertical (with assistance).
PRESCHOOL 3: INTERMEDIATE
Children increase proficiency and independent performance of basic skills learned in Preschool 1 & 2.
Prerequisites: Glide 2 body lengths, roll to back, float 15 seconds, then recover to vertical. Glide on back 2 body lengths, roll on front, recover. Swim with combined arm and leg motion for 3 body lengths, roll to back float for 15 seconds, roll to front and swim 3 body lengths (with assistance if needed).
YOUTH 1: BEGINNER - INTRO TO THE WATER
Participants are introduced to basic aquatic skills and start developing positive attitudes, effective swimming habits and safe practices around the water.
Prerequisites: None
YOUTH 2: ADVANCED BEGINNER - SWIMMING FUNDAMENTALS
Children develop more confidence and gain greater independence in the water.
Prerequisites: Enter the water, travel 5 yds, bob underwater 5 times, exit water. Glide on front 2 body lengths, roll to back float, then recover to vertical (w/assistance if needed).
YOUTH 3: INTERMEDIATE - SWIM STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Participants will build on skills learned in Youth 1 & 2 to help them achieve basic water competency.
Prerequisites: Step into chest-deep water, push off the bottom, tread or float 15 seconds, roll on back and float 15 seconds, roll to front, swim for 5 body lengths using combined arm and leg motion.
YOUTH 4: ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE - SWIM STROKE IMPROVEMENT
Participants improve proficiency in performing the swimming strokes introduced in Youth 3.
Prerequisites: Jump into the water, submerge, recover to surface, tread or float 1 minute, turn in a circle, swim front crawl or elementary backstroke for 25 yds, then exit water. Ability to streamline, swim front crawl and elementary backstroke for 15 yds each.
ADULT - BEGINNER/ADVANCED BEGINNER
Adults build confidence and learn fundamental swimming skills and water safety concepts.
Prerequisites: None
ADULT - INTERMEDIATE
Adults refine and improve swim strokes.
Prerequisites: Can jump into deep water, resurface, tread or float for 1 minute, swim 25 yards.

- Arrive dressed to swim 5 minutes before class to complete check-in and visit the bathroom.
