Smith Elementary's Chloe Chen Wins Birthday Card Contest

Chloe Chen
Paramount Art Installation Invite

During the 2017-2018 school year, Burlington second graders in ABSS schools designed birthday cards to the City highlighting their favorite places in town. These were celebrated and displayed at the Quasquicentennial event held on February 13, 2018 at the Burlington Municipal Building. Students were asked to write a short paragraph telling the city about their favorite place in Burlington. They were also asked to draw a picture of this place. The city worked with local second grade teachers to develop a lesson plan tying the project in the required curriculum of second grade.  City staff produced a video prompt hosted by the Burlington Police Department and Burlington Fire Department and Chucky, the Recreation and Parks mascot.

The City is working with Alamance Arts to host a installation featuring the winners from each classroom that participated in the contest.  The installation will be hosted at the Paramount Theater from October 16-19. The Paramount Theater is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 12 noon to 3 pm and during ticketed events.
