Where are your jobs posted?

You can find our job listings three separate ways: 1) by clicking on the Job Opportunities link; 2) by copying and pasting this link into your browser: http://agency.governmentjobs.com/burlingtonnc/default.cfm; 3) and by visiting the Human Resources Department office at 237 West Maple Avenue, Burlington, NC.
Business hours for the HR Department are Monday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm.

How do I apply for a City of Burlington job?

You can apply online by clicking on the job posting, then clicking on the “Apply” link located within it.

Can I apply for a job that isn't posted?

No, applications can only be submitted for posted positions. The “Apply” link is found within each job posting.

What do I need to apply?

You only need a computer with internet access to apply for a posted position. You may access the job postings here. The "Apply" link within the job description will take you to the online application screen.

I do not have a computer. How can I apply for a job?

The Human Resources Department has two computers available for use by applicants. You may also use the public computers located in the county’s public libraries.

Why do I need to create an online account?

The City of Burlington has chosen to use NeoGov for its online employment applications. This system is used by municipalities, counties, and states across the nation, and all the jobs posted by NeoGov are also posted at GovernmentJobs.com. Each user must create their own account. Once created, you can use this account to apply for any job posted by any agency using the NeoGov system.

If I already have a NeoGov account, do I need to create a separate one to apply for employment with the City of Burlington?

No, your current NeoGov account should work when applying for City of Burlington positions.

How do I know if my application has been received?

Once you certify and submit your online employment application, you should see a screen that says “Your application has been received.” You can also log back into your online application account and check the status of your application to see if it has been received.

How do I check my online account?

You can click the Applicant Login link to review your application status.

How long does my application remain active?

Applications submitted for open positions are only active while that posting is still open. Once a position has been filled and the posting has been closed online, your application becomes inactive.  You must reapply online for any other posted position you are interested in.

Do I need to create a new account if I want to apply for another posted position?

No, you only need to use your existing NeoGov login information to apply for another job. You will only be able to apply for other positions by clicking on the “Apply” link inside the open position’s posting online.

Where can I find the job descriptions and educational requirements for your posted positions?

Each posting contains the job description, educational requirements, necessary skills, physical requirements, working conditions that go along with the positions. You can also find the salary, hiring range, and City benefits associated with the position, along with a list of supplemental questions that will be asked on the application.

May I submit a resume only to your physical location?

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of applications. You may attach a resume, along with other appropriate attachments, with your online employment application.

After my online application has been submitted, how will I know if I am being considered for the job or if it has been offered to someone else?

There are two ways hiring managers can notify applicants of their status after their application has been submitted. One, hiring managers may choose to alert applicants of their status in the hiring process using emails or updates to their online accounts. Two, hiring managers may wait until the final decision has been made, then alert all other applicants that they have not been chosen for the job. Either way, all applicants will be notified of their status in the hiring process.

I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?

Once the posting has been closed, you can no longer apply for the position. The HR Department suggests that you log in frequently to check available postings and their closing dates.
