Maynard Aquatic Center

2/7/2024 MAC UPDATE: At their 2/5 Work Session, City Council affirmed their intention to provide an indoor pool facility and asked city staff to seek an architecture firm to design a permanent enclosure for the MAC. We will continue to provide updates when we have new information. The MAC will operate as an outdoor pool for the 2024 summer season.

At the Jan 16 City Council Meeting, Council voted to demo the pool enclosure of the Maynard Aquatics Center.

In November 2023, engineering consultants evaluated the enclosure and determined that some of its metal components were at end-of-life. Due to safety concerns, the engineers recommended the facility be closed immediately. Removing the pool's enclosure will allow the pool to operate as an outdoor facility this summer season.

Because the pool water is heated, the MAC can operate earlier in the spring and later in the fall than the North Park Pool, significantly extending the outdoor season.

There will be a presentation at the Council's February 5th Work Session outlining options for the future of the facility. One of these options will be making the MAC operational as an indoor aquatic facility again. This will be evaluated in keeping with the Burlington Recreation and Parks Master Plan.

Demolition of the pool enclosure will take place in the coming months.
