Thataways Afterschool Program (Runs AUgust-June)


2:30 pm - 6:00 pm (Full and Part Time available) 
Ages: Elementary & Middle School Students
The Burlington Recreation and Parks Department offers a pick up and drop off Afterschool program at Thataways for the following school sites: Smith & River Mill Academy. This pick-up program is held on site from the end of the school day until 6:00 pm. Full-time and part-time participation is available. The program is also offered on certain teacher workdays, holidays, and snow days. Field trips, homework time, and arts and crafts are provided in a safe and fun recreational environment. Registration will begin sometime in July 2021 for BRPD After school programs. Burlington Youth Council

 

Mondays (September - May)

Ages: Middle & High School students only!
Cost: Free
The Burlington Youth Council (BYC) is a community service organization that meets the needs of the Alamance/Burlington middle and high school students. The BYC is the backbone of Thataways, in which they offer suggestions of programs and activities that are held there. This active group of teens volunteer for various events and assists with local programs in the Alamance County area as well as offering activities for themselves. To become a member of BYC, students must be enrolled in a school in Alamance County and maintain satisfactory grades. Members must also attend BYC meetings and events on a regular basis. www.BurlingtonNC.gov/BYC

Teen to Teen Video & Theatre

Cost: Free 
Teen to Teen Video and Theatre explores difficult issues that affect adolescents through the creation and presentation of dramatic skits and workshops. Teens perform original a

nd scripted works including plays, musicals, and videos. Participants receive training in basic acting skills and character development, plus helpful information about community-based assistance and learning to make healthy life choices. Teen To Teen Video and Theatre is designed to educate, empower and encourage our youth. Presentations can be provided to community, church, scout, youth and special interest groups by special arrangement. Special Population’s Dances

Ages: 16 & older 
Cost: Free, small cost for games and concessions 
Dances are designed to offer persons with developmental disabilities an opportunity to dance and socialize. We'll also have billiards, foosball, and video arcade games, as well as four televisions for watching pleasure. Concessions are also available, so come out for a fun time and get to know others.

Bingo Night for Special Populations

We will be offering Bingo to any age person with developmental disabilities.  If your club or organization would like to help by donating prizes for Bingo night, please call (336) 222-5134.

Country Line and Couples Dancing Classes

All Ages
Admission: $5 per person
Classes are offered to individuals of all ages interested in learning to dance from beginners to advanced. A variety of dances are offered from two-step to the newest country line dances. Instructors are on hand to teach the latest dances.

Bring the whole family to Thataways to play Wii bowling on the big screen. Guests are encouraged to wear bow ties to celebrate national bow tie day. Pre-registration required by August 25. 

FALL TRIVIA NIGHT
Friday, September 17 6:30-8:30 pm
Free • For all ages
Challenge your knowledge of all things fall! 4 rounds of trivia. Winners all night. Concessions available for purchase. Pre-registration required by September 15. 

SIPS & STROLLS
Saturday, September 25 2:00-3:00 pm
Free • For all ages
A hot beverage and a walk around the park on a casual fall afternoon. Pre-registration required by September 22.

THATAWEEN - MIDDLE SCHOOL HALLOWEEN DANCE
Saturday, October 16 6:00-9:00 pm
$10 per person • Middle School Students only
It's a Halloween Party at Thataways, but for Middle School Students only! Come dance, play arcade games, and hang out with your friends. Admission includes pizza and a drink, additional concessions are available for purchase. Costume contest will be at 8:00 pm. A parent/guardian must sign in and sign out students. Pre-registration encouraged. 

SPECIAL POPULATIONS HALLOWEEN DANCE
Tuesday, October 26 6:30-8:30 pm
Free • Ages 16 and older recommended
It's a Halloween Party at Thataways, but for the Special needs community. Costumes are encouraged (no contest). Pre-registration unavailable.  

SPECIAL POPULATIONS MOVIE NIGHT
Saturday, November 5 6:30-8:30 pm
Free • For all ages
Enjoy a movie night at Thataways. Bring your onw chairs and blankets for the ultimate experience. Movie will be either G or PG. Concessions will be available for purchase. Pre-registration required by November 3. 

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Saturday, November 13 6:00-8:00 pm
$2 per person • Ages 2 and over
Children under 2 years of age do not have to be registered
All children must be accompanied by an adult

TEA TROT

Join us for a stroll around City Park and enjoy a cup of tea from a provided selection or bring your favorite! Pre-registration required by November 17. 

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
Saturday, December 4 8:00-10:00 am
$10 per person • For all ages
Enjoy this holiday tradition of eating breakfast with Santa. Event includes a breakfast biscuit, breakfast beverage, fruit, craft, and an opportunity to take pictures with Santa. Pre-registration is required by December 1. No walk-ins day of event. Space is limited.
