Animal Services
Information related to the enforcement of city codes and North Carolina State Laws pertaining to animal issues. The Animal Services Division is also responsible for operation of the city/county animal shelter as well as the Pet Adoption Center.
Cemetery & Grounds
Information related to the administering and maintaining of the cemetery grounds located throughout the City.
Community Development
The division is responsible for managing a housing rehabilitation program funded through government programs. These programs include Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Home Investments Partnership Program (HOME).
Engineering
The Engineering Department provides many services to the public and other departments within the City government. The staff is comprised of engineers, surveyors, construction inspectors, technicians and office personnel.

Fire
The Burlington Fire Department strives to develop a safety-oriented community. The Department is made up of three divisions: Emergency Response, Fire Prevention, and Training Divisions.
Human Resources
Human Resources is responsible for ensuring City compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws, advertising employment opportunities within the City, and accepting applications for available vacancies.
Information Technology
Dedicated to providing safe and dependable technology systems for all City departments and citizens of Burlington.
Inspections
The Inspections Division handles inspections of construction projects within the City and is responsible for enforcing the City Zoning Ordinance and the Minimum Housing Code.
Planning
Planning and Community Development is broken down into five divisions: Community Development, GIS, Inspections, Long-Range Planning, and Zoning and Subdivisions.
Police
The Burlington Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that employs 109 sworn and 34 civilian personnel. The Department is comprised of professional, dedicated employees who work within a number of diverse divisions throughout the Department.
Public Information
The Public Information Office serves as a communications link between City departments, City employees, the citizens of Burlington, and the news media.
Public Works
The Public Works Department is responsible for the following services: Building Maintenance, Equipment Services, Sanitation, Streets, Cemetery, Grounds, and Traffic Signals and Markings.
Purchasing
The Purchasing Division of Finance handles submitted proposals for the purchase of materials, supplies, apparatus, or equipment as needed by the City of Burlington.
Recreation & Parks
Recreation & Parks operates many state-of-the-art facilities to citizens throughout the City of Burlington.
Streets
The Street Division maintains City-owned streets, rights-of-way, storm drainage systems, and sidewalks.

Water Resources
The City of Burlington Water Resources Department exists to provide Burlington residents with services pertaining to water treatment and distribution and wastewater collection and treatment.
Water & Billing
The Customer Service Division of the Finance Department collects all revenues from taxes, water and sewer utility billing, solid waste fees, street assessments, and vacant lot and demolition fees. They also collect parking fees and ticket payments, and they prepare all required notices
