The Operations Bureau of the Burlington Police Department focuses on all aspects of community policing to include neighborhood projects and a host of other programs designed to enhance police / community relations.  Additionally, traditional patrol functions are incorporated into this bureau.  Working together, the bureau utilizes the latest concepts in community policing in order to maintain safe, community involved neighborhoods and operate effective programs.  Assisting the community and bridging the gap between police and community has been effective throughout the City of Burlington.

The Operations Bureau is under the command of Assistant Chief Steve Black.  Within the bureau are 2 captains who manage the patrol functions and oversee 8 teams that conduct traditional patrol functions, community policing within designated zones, and a host of other tasks that are designed to enhance the relationships between community and police.

 
The Operations Bureau oversees the following specialized programs.  Please click on each for more information or you can call us or email Carol for additional inquires and answers to questions. Bicycle Registration – Register your bike with the Police Department.

Campus Crimestoppers – (336) 229-7100 A Crimestoppers program for our middle and high schools.  Offers students a way to report crimes AND remain anonymous.

Crimestoppers Program – Receive up to $2,500.00 for anonymous information leading to the arrest of a person or persons involved in a crime.

Canine Unit (K-9) – The Burlington Police Department has 5 Canine Teams.

Community Watch – A Crime Prevention Program where neighbors watch out for each other.

COPS Advisory Board – Board appointed by the Chief to address public safety and promote a better working relationship between the Police and Community.

Crime Prevention – The Crime Prevention/Community Relations Officer works closely with the Community.

National Night Out – Annually held on the first Tuesday in August.

Parade Permit – Required for all who wish to conduct a parade. Print permit document and return to the Burlington Police Department.

Parking Enforcement – Information about city parking codes.

Police/Fire Alarm Ordinances – Alarm subscribers are required to obtain an alarm permit, providing information on the alarm system as well as emergency contacts. 

R-U-OK Program – A telephone system designed to automatically make phone calls with the intention of checking the well being of subscribers within the city limits of Burlington.

Talks & Tours – You or your group can schedule a tour of the Police Department or request an officer to come to your facility.

Traffic Enforcement – The Traffic Enforcement Safety Team focuses on traffic enforcement, public safety & education, crash investigations, and motorist assistance.

Weed & Seed – A multi-agency strategy to “weed out” violent crime, gang activity, drug use and drug trafficking in targeted neighborhoods and then “seeds” the targeted area by restoring the neighborhoods through social and economic revitalization. Return to top
