Historic Preservation
Although many of the magnificent structures from Burlington's early days have been torn down by one means or another, significant clusters of buildings survive to remind and teach us of times gone by. Historic Preservation gained strong support throughout the country following the days of Urban Renewal. Today, many government and non-profit organizations are working together to bring old buildings and properties to life. image002.jpg
If you are contemplating renovations to your historic home, feel free to drop by the City Planning & Community Development Department and browse through our files of information and preservation magazines. For those of you living in the locally regulated West Burlington Historic District or Glencoe Mill Village Historic District, be sure to visit the Historic Preservation Commission's page to learn about deadlines, guidelines and tips to make your next home project a preservation success story. Also, if your home is a contributing structure to the District and you are planning $25,000 or more in rehabilitative work, you may qualify for the State of North Carolina's 30% tax credit.   Please call 222-5110 for more information.
