Thataways Afterschool Program (Runs AUgust-June)

2:30 pm - 6:00 pm (Full and Part Time available)
Ages: Elementary & Middle School Students
The Burlington Recreation and Parks Department offers a pick up and drop off Afterschool program at Thataways for the following school sites: Smith & River Mill Academy. This pick-up program is held on site from the end of the school day until 6:00 pm. Full-time and part-time participation is available. The program is also offered on certain teacher workdays, holidays, and snow days. Field trips, homework time, and arts and crafts are provided in a safe and fun recreational environment. Registration is currently being accepted for all BRPD After school programs. Burlington Youth Council


2nd & 4th Mondays of each month
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Ages: Middle & High School students only!
Cost: Free
The Burlington Youth Council (BYC) is a community service organization that meets the needs of the Alamance/Burlington middle and high school students. The BYC is the backbone of Thataways, in which they offer suggestions of programs and activities that are held there. This active group of teens volunteer for various events and assists with local programs in the Alamance County area as well as offering activities for themselves. To become a member of BYC, students must be enrolled in a school in Alamance County and maintain satisfactory grades. Members must also attend BYC meetings and events on a regular basis. www.BurlingtonNC.gov/BYC

Teen to Teen Video & Theatre

7:00 pm - 8:30pm 
Ages: 13-19 
Cost: Free 
Teen to Teen Theatre explores difficult issues that affect adolescents through the creation and presentation of dramatic skits and workshops. Teens perform original a

nd scripted works including plays, musicals, and videos. Participants receive training in basic acting skills and character development, plus helpful information about community-based assistance and learning to make healthy life choices. Teen To Teen is designed to educate, empower and encourage our youth. Presentations can be provided to community, church, scout, youth and special interest groups by special arrangement. Special Population’s Dances (Halloween Dance 2017 - OCtober 31st)

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm 
For All Ages (recommended for ages 16 & older) 
Cost: Free, small cost for games and concessions 
Dances are designed to offer persons with developmental disabilities an opportunity to dance and socialize. We'll also have billiards, foosball, and video arcade games, as well as four televisions for watching pleasure. Concessions are also available, so come out for a fun time and get to know others. 


Bingo Night for Special Populations

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
All Ages
Admission: Free
We will be offering Bingo to any age person with developmental disabilities.  If your club or organization would like to help by donating prizes for Bingo night, please call (336) 222-5134. 


Country Line and Couples Dancing Classes

7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
All Ages
Admission: $3 per person
Classes are offered to individuals of all ages interested in learning to dance from beginners to advanced. A variety of dances are offered from two-step to the newest country line dances. Instructors are on hand to teach the latest dances.

Thataways Annual Middle School Halloween Dance
Saturday, October 21
7:00 - 10:00 pm
For Middle School Students Only
Admission: $8 per person (Dinner Included)
It's Halloween again at Thataways so come dressed in your costume to celebrate! Activities for the night include: Halloween Trivia, a selfie station, dancing, prizes and corn hole. Arcade games, billiards and concessions will be available for a small cost. Registration is available online. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by October 19th. 

Hunter Education Course

Saturday October 21 • 9 AM - 4 PM
All Ages (recommended for ages 12 and older)
Course Fee: Free
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and Burlington Recreation & Parks presents the Hunter Education Course. This course is designed to promote the safe handling of firearms and archery equipment, teach responsible, ethical conduct by hunters, educate sportsmen in the various methods and the proper use of equipment harvesting game, and endorse the importance of wildlife management laws and regulations. Participants will receive their Hunter's Safety Certification and badge after passing a written exam. For more information or to register visit www.ncwildlife.org. Participants must be registered.
