The Human Resources Department accepts applications for employment with the Fire Department on a year-round basis. It is recommended applicants update their application every 6 months to keep current information on hand for review with the department.
Applicants must have the following:
North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician Certification (Completion of course will not suffice.)
Applicants need to contact the NC Office of EMS about reciprocity agreements from other states.
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
High School Degree or GED
Must be 18 years old (The age requirement was dropped from 20 to 18 in March of 2015)
Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview which will help narrow the list of candidates. Candidates must then have a medical physical completed by a private physician as the final step involves completion of a physical agility test. This test is similar in nature to the Firefighter Combat Challenge and is intended to test the candidates endurance. Probationary firefighters will then be selected after review of each of the candidates and the entire application process.
